Here are two new scholarships that did not make it on the March Scholarship List:

KYESA Scholarship for seniors whose parent/guardian is a full-time paid member of the police or sherriff's department or fire department. Parent/guardian may also be a volunteer member of a fire department.

Applications are available in the Guidance Office. Application deadline is March 30.

JUNIORS: The ACT approaches!!!!

Juniors and Parents,

The ACT test date is quickly approaching! On Tuesday, March 6th, all Hickman County High School juniors will take the ACT 1st-4th periods in the gym. It is important to get a good night's sleep the night before and eat a good breakfast that morning.

Any junior who would like to do some studying before the test date is encouraged to pick up a Barron's ACT study guide from the Guidance Office.

SENIORS: March Scholarship List

Seniors and Parents,

Now is the time for the big scholarship push for our senior class. Here in the Guidance Office we are updating seniors regularly on new scholarship opportunities that have become available. Many of the scholarship applications are done online, however, there are still a handful that use the paper application. Those applications are kept on file in our office and are available for our seniors to pick up anytime.

We are doing something a little different this month. To ensure  parents are aware of the available scholarships we are mailing home the same scholarship list we give to the seniors. Parents are encouraged to look through the list, review it, and encourage your senior to apply for any scholarship they qualify for if they have not done so already.

We are here to answer any questions you may have about scholarships or financial aid. Please do not hesitate to contact us.

Also, we are having a FAFSA Followup session on Wednesday, February 29 from 12-5 at the high school. We encourage anyone who filed the FAFSA to attend.

Some reminders...

Just wanted to remind the Juniors and Seniors who receive free or reduced lunch that you can use a maximum of two fee waivers for both years.

FYI: We have study guides in the Guidance Office for students to check out for the ACT, ASVAB, AP Calculus, PSAT, CLEP, and SAT tests. Anyone interested should see Ms. Krista.

In addition, there are publications covering the topics of "College Majors", "Career Choices", "Financial Aid", and "Scholarships" also available. Parents, as well as students, are welcome to check these out.

MSU Fall Major's Fair

Murray State University's Fall Majors Fair is October 19, 2011 from 2:00-4:00 in the Curris Center. Anyone who is interested in attending MSU is encouraged to attend.

ACT

It's time again to start preparing for the ACT!!! The fee for taking the test is $34. There is a $21 late fee charged if you register after the deadline. The easiest way to register for the ACT is online. If you don't have a registration booklet, you can pick one up in the Guidance Office.

Students who receive free/reduced lunch may get a fee waiver from Ms. Krista to waive the registration fee.

We now have, in the Guidance Office, ACT study guides that you can check out and take home. Just see Ms. Krista or Mrs. Boaz if you are interested in checking one out.

The ACT will be given on the following dates:

September 10, 2011  (Registration deadline August 12, 2011)
October 22, 2011   (Registration deadline September 16, 2011)
December 10, 2011   (Registration deadline November 4, 2011)
February 11, 2012   (Registration deadline January 12, 2012)
April 14, 2012   (Registration deadline March 9. 2012)
